Sleep is a necessity, not a luxury. However, with the hectic pace of modern life, getting the sleep we need can be difficult. So today, we’re sharing a few ways to sleep better.
Sometimes we sleep for a long time but don’t actually get good rest, while at other times we sleep very little but have a refreshing nap.
.
Has that ever happened to you? In this article, we’ll look at some sleep techniques and remedies—not just to help you fall asleep, but also to enjoy restful sleep that leaves you feeling energized for a new day.
Tips for falling asleep and getting better rest
Here are five tips on how to fall asleep quickly. And rest assured, none of them involve taking sleeping pills. We’ll simply look at what you can do to sleep well by following a few guidelines and trying some remedies to see what works for you.
Switch off your devices before bed
Many of us stay up watching a show until we feel sleepy, or use our phones to play games or pass the time until we start to nod off. Although this may seem to work because it makes us feel drowsy, it can actually affect us quite significantly.
Of course we eventually fall asleep, because our eyes get tired and give in at some point.
But it doesn’t do anything to improve the quality of our sleep. It leaves us feeling more tired during the day, as if we haven’t rested at all. It may even contribute to more serious health problems, including depression.
Here’s an interesting article I found online. I thought it was informative and insightful, and it explains how using the TV to lull ourselves to sleep can be harmful.
Do something you dislike before bed
I once heard that doing activities we dislike can help combat insomnia. We usually choose to keep watching a show we enjoy, read an interesting book, or play games on our phone. However, because these activities are enjoyable, it takes us longer to feel sleepy.
Think about it for a moment: what feels more like a chore—watching a movie you enjoy at the cinema or having to wash the dishes? Exactly!
So the next time you can’t sleep, try doing the laundry, cleaning the house (if you dislike it), doing math (if you don’t enjoy it), or any other activity you’re not particularly fond of. You’ll see how much faster sleep comes and how well you’ll be able to rest.

Herbal Teas and Tips for Better Sleep
Hot drinks generally help our bodies relax. However, some may not help as much if we don’t know the benefits of their ingredients.
For example, drinking coffee at night won’t help, since caffeine is a stimulant. That’s why people drink it in the morning. But coffee isn’t the only thing that contains caffeine; some teas do, too, while others are caffeine-free. So I recommend checking the box before you buy, so you can choose the right tea and sleep better through the night.
Green tea is recommended for an energy boost, while teas that help you relax include chamomile, linden, and spearmint, or you can simply buy teas labelled “sleep better.” These usually contain blends of herbs that can help you get a good night’s rest.
Soothing Melodies or Nature Sounds
Some of us are used to sleeping with music on, but we listen to pop, rock, electronic, metal, or whatever we like. Sometimes, this keeps us more awake rather than helping us relax.
Look for a playlist of sounds to help you sleep. You can find ready-made ones on Spotify or YouTube. I like listening to the sound of the sea or birds singing; they help me relax a lot. I also listen to classical music played on the piano.

Stick to a Sleep Schedule for Better Daily Rest
You probably already knew this, but even so, we rebel and don’t get the recommended 7 to 8 hours of rest. We sleep 5 hours or less and wake up tired and exhausted.
Set aside time in the afternoon to get things done. Instead of watching that series you like or taking a 4-hour nap in the afternoon, go and do your chores, even if you’re tired, so you can sleep better and get a full rest at night.
When I sleep for 3 or 4 hours in the afternoon, I can’t fall asleep at night. I end up going to bed at 1 or 2 in the morning, and when I get up at 6 to go to work, I feel a huge weight on my shoulders and my eyes. When I resist the urge to nap and keep busy in the afternoon, I sleep like a baby.
So you know what to do: try these simple but useful tips to get the kind of sleep that truly helps you feel rested.
