Have you ever felt like it just isn’t your day, as people commonly say, “getting out of bed on the wrong side”?
We’ve all had a day we wish we could erase, one that feels like a cruel joke from life. As the day goes on, things seem to get worse; all we want is for night to come so we can wait for a fresh morning.
Don’t feel like you’re the only one, and don’t waste your energy asking God, life, fate, or even your dog, “Why me?” It won’t make you feel any better. The truth is that instead of doing things to make ourselves feel better, we sabotage ourselves and seem to do everything we can to feel even worse.
Here are some tips for when you find yourself having one of those nightmare days.
Music
Music is one of our best allies when we use it the right way. I have a go-to playlist on Spotify for those days when the world feels overwhelming and everything seems to be going wrong. I put on my headphones and let the music take me away.
If you put on sad music, you'll feel even worse. If you want to lift your spirits, choose upbeat music or songs with inspiring lyrics. Knowing that other people have been through the same thing makes us feel understood, even if we have no personal connection to the person sharing that message.
I love listening to the song “Llueve sobre mojado” by Ha*Ash. It has a catchy beat and fun lyrics. If you haven't heard it, here it is—let me know if you agree with me.
Make Time for Yourself
When even having someone breathe near us annoys us, don't feel guilty about wanting some time alone, saying no to an outing, or treating yourself a little.
Go somewhere you like that makes you feel calm: the beach, a lake, a beautiful scenic spot, or perhaps the cinema, a restaurant, or a bowling alley.
Many people feel embarrassed about doing things alone. Society has led us to believe that if someone does something by themselves, it's because they have no one. Challenge that belief and treat yourself to something you enjoy. You don't have to explain to anyone what you do or why you do it.

Express Yourself
Don't bottle up your feelings and emotions. What you're going through is common. Remember that this day will pass, and that there are people around the world feeling just like you—or even worse—at this very moment.
If you have someone you trust, tell them how you feel. Don't dismiss your emotions: this is how you feel, and that's okay. It's normal to feel annoyed, sad, irritable, or sensitive. Don't let anyone tell you it doesn't matter.
If you enjoy a sport or some form of art, use it to channel all your energy. There's nothing better than turning pain into something positive.
Surround yourself with people who bring positivity into your life—people you trust and can count on.
Before bed, listen to calming music: classical, opera, instrumental, meditation music, or nature sounds. Take a couple of deep breaths, and good night!
Tomorrow will be a great day—smile!
